This is the story of the ca.1840 McElroy House, today the home to the Museum of Yancey County History, from the early origins of Yancey County to the diverse builders and owners of the house, to the museum's role in the present and future. From family stories, artifacts, and records, many of them preserved within the museum, emerges this history, as witnessed by the house that is now the showcase for so much of the area's past. Also included are photographs of the house, of museum exhibits, and of people and places crucial to the story of the house and county.
